The first 15 minutes

1.If safe, shut off the water at the main valve.
2.Cut power to the affected area at the breaker if water has reached outlets or appliances.
3.Move valuables, documents, and electronics out of standing water.
4.Do not use a household vacuum on standing water.
5.Photograph everything for your insurance claim — then call us.

Do not enter standing water in a room where the power is still on.
Do not run household fans into wet walls — surface-drying hides water a meter can still find, and moving air across contaminated water spreads it.
Do not use a regular household vacuum on water of any kind.
Do not rip out wet drywall yourself before it is photographed and measured — the claim needs the loss documented as found.
Do not run the furnace or AC if ducts or returns took water.
Do not wait until morning. Water damage compounds by the hour, and mold starts within 24–48.
